Our residents appreciate the extras we provide. As owners and managers of our properties, we take the time needed to enhance the resident experience by renovated and upgrading our buildings. Yes, even the laundry rooms!
At Home Apartments is unique in many respects to other property management companies. We own our buildings and that pride shows. We frequently evaluate the condition and aesthetics of our properties. We do this to make our residents’ living experience as enjoyable as possible. This doesn’t stop at our apartment units themselves. For example: One overlooked aspect of many historic apartment buildings is their laundry and storage area. They are usually located in the basement or garden level, neglected for years and often forgotten.
We realized many years ago that these common areas and shared spaces should be celebrated and upgraded equally to the private living areas. Therefore, we’ve taken our historic laundry rooms and completely re-designed them to be just as inviting and comfortable as our newly renovated apartments. This starts with upgraded plumbing and electrical. Then – new drywall, windows, and a refinished floor. From there we install cabinets for storage and granite countertops for clothes folding space and easy clean-up. To finish it off we apply a fresh coat of paint. When space allows we include stainless steel folding tables, as well.
If we’re lucky, there will be space for a book-share library and a bulletin board for notes and news. We’re so happy to improve these rooms for the residents who call these beautiful buildings home.
The 36th Annual National Night Out was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. In St. Paul alone over 37 thousand people attend events in their neighborhoods. It’s a chance for people to meet their neighbor and, in some cases, chat with local law enforcement personnel. Communities provide food and promote the special event to bring people out of their homes and apartments to socialize. A similar program in Minnesota is promoted in each county and is known as Night to Unite. There is great comfort in knowing who lives next door and our society feels more secure when folks band together with a cause – like safe neighborhoods. The addition of food ties it all together as a social gathering.
Many of our At Home Apartments communities took advantage of this national event to celebrate their residents and mingle with staff. Waterford Townhomes in Eagan invited local police to stop by for a visit. The Jade Lane Estates leasing and maintenance team served burgers on the grill. And BBQs were a big hit with lawn games at Oxford Apartments in St. Paul.

Kids that aren’t in school during the summer need lunch! The Mobile Lunch Box brings the food to them in Dakota County -driven by The Open Door Pantry and the donations they receive. We wanted to help and our summer Food Drive has now expanded to 13 leasing offices.
It started as a desire to help The Mobile Lunch Box program in Dakota County. With six of the At Home Apartments’ properties located there, it seemed like a great fit for our residents and staff to help make a difference. Once we learned how great the need was to bring lunches to the kids that were not in school, we created a task force and set a date for a food drive. We wanted to allow our residents and staff the opportunity to donate kid-friendly foods that The Open Door Pantry would distribute through their Mobile Lunch Box bus.
Theresa Stokes, Community Relations Coordinator for The Open Door Pantry, stated, “The Mobile Lunch Box program is one of our innovative programs. We have partnered with ISD 191 and 196 in certain locations and other sites are ours alone. We have used feedback from local police departments and school officials to help us target the “at need” neighborhoods that would benefit from a Mobile Lunch Box visit. Additionally, we are the largest food shelf in Dakota County and our specialty is food. We are open 5 days a week and 2 evenings to get food to those who need it most. The partnership of At Home Apartments in Dakota County with any food drive or fund drive support, would see that resourcing go right back to our communities.”
What started with a few Dakota County properties has now expanded to 13 of our leasing offices in the Twin Cities metro area. While we gather food for The Mobile Lunchbox in Dakota County, in the month of July we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for other area food shelves in the Second Harvest Heartland network. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact in each of our communities.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive and necessary maintenance for individual apartments, buildings, and grounds. The Technician works directly with the Maintenance Coordinator, Property Manager, and remaining office staff to ensure routine maintenance tasks are complete, to oversee the turnover of units for move-ins and move-outs, and to maintain efficient operations of overall property and grounds.

Winter in Minnesota is a beautiful time of year. The beauty sometimes outweighs the challenges, but – driving can quickly become hazardous. And parking in Minneapolis and St. Paul used to be a hassle… not so much any more.
With cold weather and snow just around the corner we are gearing up for parking limitations and plowing alerts. It’s hard to believe we haven’t had a major snow accumulation yet this winter. Bring it on! We are ready for it whenever it arrives. Our property managers have plans in place for quick shoveling as needed and plowing begins after two or more inches are on the ground. We’ve communicated our procedures to each metro and suburban resident and we’re prepared to call our plowing providers when needed.
At each of our communities we place handy containers of sidewalk rock salt and invite residents to spread it on walkways (in case we don’t get to it in a timely manner). We want to avoid slips and falls during this icy season.
Our St. Paul and Minneapolis properties have plans in place to communicate when to move cars for plowing. The city of Minneapolis features their snow emergency information online and offers an app to make it easy to park safely. You can also see updates for St. Paul and download their winter snow parking app on their website.
A bonus for our residents is a one-stop-shop… Twitter! We use #ahaplows to alert all of our residents of plowing that is scheduled and offer recommendations for where to park. We don’t want to tow or ticket their vehicles. So, with the beautiful snowy season of winter upon us we are excited to gear-up for whatever comes our way.
We’ve introduced our new bold and bright logo and website to the world. At Home Apartments is enjoying a season of growth and the challenges that arise. We’ve been maintaining great relationships with our current residents and welcoming more to our new communities.
In 2017 our company changed. The business remains the same, but the look and feel of the At Home Apartments brand has evolved. For 24 years we’ve been a rather quiet property development and management company. That all changed when we committed to an aggressive goal: to add 200 rental units to our portfolio each year. And we have! Our recentnew developments have increased our units to over 4,500 in a matter of a few years. We continue to build new apartment communities in response to a high level of housing demand.
With the additional properties comes the demand for more staff. We’ve been filling the need by welcoming new employees to the AHA team. Soon we will be breaking ground on a new office building near our leasing office on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. We are proud to be celebrating our 25th Anniversary this year and our new headquarters will be a welcomed benefit to the many advantages of working with At Home.
As our portfolio grows so does the need to market and promote our amazing properties. We launched this new responsive website in April and now display a fresh look with a logo and bold color pallet that broadcasts our desired message of “Making people feel At Home for 25 years!”
A fitting piece in the new promotion of At Home is to introduce ourselves in a two-page spread in one of our favorite magazines – SPACES. You’ll find our advertorial in the August-September edition available at no charge from local super markets and shops.
Boatworks Commons was chosen as a Finance & Commerce Top Project of 2016. Construction began in late 2013 on the 85-unit apartment complex including private resident and public spaces, a restaurant, and parking.
At Home Apartments is proud to announce that Boatworks Commons was recognized by Finance & Commerce at a special awards ceremony on July 26, 2017. As part of their 9th annual Top Projects Series, Boatworks Commons was chosen as a Finance & Commerce Top Project of 2016.
Among the more than 115 nominations submitted Boatworks Commons stood out as one of Minnesota’s top construction projects. A special awards presentation was held at the Minneapolis Event Center in N.E. Minneapolis where all recipients of the award were honored. Boatworks Commons was also featured in the Finance & Commerce magazine produced to showcase this year’s honorees.
A beautiful mosaic tile mural representing White Bear Lake decorates the public restroom entryway. The colored tiles depict the depths of the water in the lake. A round red tile indicates where Boatworks Commons is located on the shore.
At Home Apartments announces their newest development located in the heart of beautiful Eagan, Minnesota. CV2 will be highlight of the neighborhood and within walking distance to coffee shops, pubs, shopping, dining, and walking paths…
Our new development, CV2, is under construction on the corner of Town Centre Drive and Promenade Avenue. The 120 upscale apartment homes will be available to lease this fall and move in to next spring. Community spaces include an outdoor pool, courtyard, and lounge – plus – a fitness studio on the rooftop. The 23 floor plans are available to view now with pricing announced in September. On June 26, 1992 Mike Cashill and Alan Spaulding became the owners of what would be the first of many brownstone apartment buildings in St. Paul, Minnesota.
