Our Story: 30+ Years of Good Bones, Great Locations & Conscientious Management

At Home Apartments (AHA) has been creating and caring for quality apartment home communities in Minnesota since 1990. Founders Mike Cashill and Alan Spaulding began with two 14-unit turn-of-the-century brownstones on St. Paul’s Grand Avenue. The Twin Cities natives, who combined experience in property management and building maintenance, sought to build a better model for local property management. The vision was to acquire structurally solid apartment properties in good locations, make them better to live in, and manage them with genuine care, consistency, accountability, and attention to detail. After all, it’s more than an apartment. It’s a home.

The approach is powerful in its simplicity. By creating communities residents feel excited and proud to call home, the duo has helped to elevate the experience of Twin Cities apartment living. Today, AHA’s team of 110+ amazing employees daily keep the legacy strong.

Search by rent range if desired, and instantly view pricing for different communities. Once you’ve narrowed your search, our leasing agents will promptly get you exact apartment pricing.

We invest in keeping communities thriving. Proactive plans guide respectful renovations to existing properties, and we never cut corners on quality. We also invest in events to help residents feel at home, including social and networking parties, clean-up days, gift card drawings, and other special events.

We strive to be responsive to how residents want to live. Smoke-free living, more work-from-home spaces, plentiful dog stations, flowers in entryways, well-executed turnovers that get you in your new home fast, learning your name (and your pet’s!) — these are all ways we show we truly care.

Our entire team takes ownership and responsibility for following through on our commitments. We work together to ensure fast, seamless turnaround and thoughtful resolution on any emergencies, requests, and questions. New resident move-in surveys ensure that we keep learning and improving.

Sustainability in Action: Committed to Investing in a Greener Future

For AHA, creating communities also means investing in sustainability. We all share responsibility for sustaining the earth’s natural resources. That’s why we are proud to be pioneers in our field, using our capabilities as property managers and developers to make greener, smarter choices for our apartment communities.

We were the first property manager in Minnesota to invest in large-scale solar. In 2016, we took the bold step of installing a 148 kW solar garden on the parking ramp roof at CityVue Apartments in Eagan.

This installation, which was the most significant renewable energy investment at any multifamily project in Minnesota, produces 180,000 kW hours annually. And we continue to prove our commitment in countless ways, including:

  • Continuing to invest in solar (we have now installed more than 555 kW of solar on garage and building roofs)
  • Electric vehicle charging
  • Transitioning to smoke-free living
  • Using LED lighting in building common areas
  • Offering bike parking and storage
  • Mounting photo eyes for all exterior and common area lights
  • Using technologically advanced boilers for heating
  • Providing Recycling Centers at all of our buildings
  • Sourcing environmentally friendly, energy-efficient upgrades when replacing building materials (e.g., thermal-paned windows and insulated white membrane roofs for maximum seasonal efficiency)
